Own a Mac? Why not read some useful tips that can help speed up your Mac computer in easy steps.
Check If CPU And Memory Are Being Burdened
To improve your Mac's performance, one thing you can do is to check the CPU usage and manage that. When a number of heavy applications are running simultaneously, they utilize a lot of CPU and memory resources. This can lead to the system being stuck in case the application's requirements are greater than the system resources. Same is the case with Apple Mac OS. If the system is running slow, the first step that the user needs to take is to make sure that the system resources are not being over- loaded i.e. CPU and memory are not being burdened. In a Windows OS, we can use Task Utility to see the running applications while in a Mac OS, we can go to Applications tab and then to Utilities. It will show the applications and the resources that they are using. The applications that are being too heavy should be stopped immediately and restarted again so as to resolve the slow performance issue.
Reduce The Startup Programs
Another major reason for the slow performance of the system may be the large number of programs that the system needs to start when it is booted. One should try his level best to optimize the number of programs needed to be booted with the start of the system. The lesser is the number of startup programs, better is the system performance. In a Mac OS, you can go to System preferences > Accounts tab and then to Login items tab. It will show you all the programs that have been set to startup as you login to your account. Check out for any unnecessary programs and remove them from the login items list. In this way, the burden of the system can be reduced to a great extent and system performance can be improved.
Remove Unused Applications
There are many unused applications or the ones that we have installed in the past and do not use them now. Such applications take a lot of space on the hard disk and in case they are not being frequently used then this means that such applications are wasting hard disk space. If the user can check out for such applications and uninstall/ remove them, this would provide a lot of free space on the hard disk which will help increase the overall speed of all the operations of the system.
Repair The Disk
Every OS provides the disk repairing utilities. Such utilities help to remove or repair bad sectors and optimize free space on the disk. Windows OS provides disk cleanup and disk defragmentation utilities. Similarly such utilities are also provided by Mac OS. The user can go to Applications tab and then Utilities tab to run the utilities that would repair the disk sectors.
Increase Your Memory
The more the memory i.e. RAM in the system, the faster is the performance of the system. So in order to have a faster, improved system, it is necessary to increase RAM with the passage of time.
In this article, we discussed ways that can be followed to improve the speed and performance of systems running with Mac OS. This should be kept in mind that these are generic hints and tricks, thus these are applicable on systems running with any kind of OS. In this fast age, it’s important to cope with the pace of life. So make sure that your system supports you in keeping pace with the modern day world.
